The Colorado
Municipal League and Colorado Recycles undertook a collaborative
survey of municipal trash hauling and curbside recycling
programs throughout Colorado. The survey was the first
of its kind, and was designed to provide the organizations
and the public with threshold information for each community.
Two hundred and seventy-one communities were surveyed
during the summer and fall of 2006, and more than 80%
of the communities completed and returned the survey
instrument.
The information
gleaned from those surveys forms the basis of the data
and tables that you will find on this web site.
The survey
was intended to be the first of a series of surveys
and research products into the trash hauling and recycling
activities in Colorado. The information in the accompanying
tables does not include information for the unincorporated
areas of Colorado, and has only rudimentary information
concerning private trash hauling and recycling services.
More research and surveys are being planned to gather
that information.
The metholodogy
used in the survey instrument was a simple and straight
forward set of questions for the municipal officials
to complete. The survey was distributed through a combination
of direct mail, FAX, email, municipal web site and community
newsletter reviews and telephonic interviews. Both the
Colorado Municipal League and Colorado Recycles greatly
appreciate the cooperation and assistance of the municipal
officials who provided this information.
It is the
intent of the Colorado Municipal League and Colorado
Recycles that this web site be continually updated as
information becomes available. On the menu bar in left
hand margin is a link for communities to use to submit
updated information. That feature is under construction
and will be launched as soon as it is completed and tested. |
