The information
provided in this table demonstrates whether curbside
recycling services in the community are provided by the municipality
as a direct municipal service, whether the curbside recycling
services are provided by the municipality
through a contract with one or more private haulers,
whether curbside recycling services are provided by private
haulers under a municipal mandate to provide the service,
whether the curbside recycling services are provided
by the private haulers under a municipal mandate to offer
the service, or whether the community relies upon private
haulers and consumers to make appropriate contractual
arrangements with each other.
Because several
communities provided us with additional information regarding
drop off recycling services, we added an additional column
that displays drop off information. In many communities,
curbside and drop off services both exist. However, the
materials accepted by each may differ. Each program must
be reviewed to determine acceptable products and any
handling instructions. Although it may appear that including
drop off information is beyond the scope of the survey,
we had enough communities commenting on drop off that
we believed including the information provided a more
symmetrical view of the community recycling infrastructure.
It should
be noted that this information is largely reflective
of single family residential neighborhoods. Most communities
consider multifamily communities to be commercial and
do not provide service as a general rule. Several communities
do provide service to multifamily, so each community
must be queried to determine whether it services multifamily
complexes.

is no information, we are still working to verify the arrangement. Please
let us know if any of this information is in error
or
needs updating.
